This project is a minimalist poetry cover design created for Nothing Toulouse by John Known.
The author wanted the book to feel like a modern classic - minimalist, refined, and evocative while reflecting the slow exploration of one’s inner world. It was important that the visual language suggest both movement and a sense of journey, as if the reader were traveling inward as much as outward.
Nothing Toulouse is a collection of poetry centered on self-discovery, identity, and the beauty of imperfection. Set against the backdrop of a nostalgic journey through Germany, the poems reflect on purpose, memory, and the quiet process of becoming.
In response, I created a cover with a stark black-and-white palette and a restrained, symbolic composition. At its center stands a small glowing figure, surrounded by a vortex-like ring of intertwining tree branches, while a moon hovers above, adding a sense of distance and mystery.
